Bronwyn Maree
Bronwyn started her academic career at the University of Cape Town completing a B.Sc. majoring in Ecology, Zoology and Ecological and Geological Science. She then went on to complete her Honours and Masters degrees in Ichthyology and Fisheries Science, with distinction, at Rhodes University in the Eastern Cape. Her Masters thesis was entitled “Home range dynamics of spotted grunter, Pomadasys commersonnii, in a South African intermittently open estuary”. Bronwyn then joined the Albatross Task Force (ATF) in early 2008, where until recently, she was the only female ATF instructor. She works very closely with the South African deep-sea trawl fishery to reduce seabird bycatch. As part of her work she conducts workshops for industry, government and fisheries observers, as well as spending time out at sea recording seabird interactions within the fishery and running experiments to test measures which aim to reduce seabird bycatch.
